Loneliness of the Long Distance Filmmaker

"The possibility of making a new cinema completely outside the system depends on whether or not filmmakers can transform themselves from 'directors' into total filmmakers. And no one can become a total filmmaker without being a film technician, without being capable of handling the production."

The above quote and the image remind of two of the most sobering and realistic film making quotes. Can't remember where they are from... but they haunt me.

"Making (the writing, the funding, the pre, the shooting, the post etc) a film is like telling a joke, in slow motion, underwater."

or

"Making a film is like cooking a steak by sitting the cold raw meat on a tray in an office and having people occasionally walk into the office and breathe on the steak."
