Desire #1

Carson McCullers. No one can write of the violence of desire and first love the way she did:
"They both turned at the same time. They were close against each other. She felt him trembling and her fists were tight enough to crack. 'Oh, God,' he kept saying over and over. It was like her head was broke off from her body and thrown away. And her eyes looked up straight into the blinding sun while she counted something in her mind. And then this was the way.

This was how it was."
from 'The Heart is a Lonely Hunter', p 241

Hiatus

I like to drop out. Every now and then for a couple of months, I like to disappear; forget everything and everyone by going someplace else, where life is still. But in recent years, this hasn't been possible. Work mounts, projects entrap, life encircles. But this past month, I got to drop out for a while. At last. At last. It was the sweetest salve imaginable.
